Features excerpts from exclusive interviews - including Walter Cronkite,Bill Moyers,Jimmy Carter,James Michener,Robert Ludlum,Julia Child,Mickey Mantle and others.
Williamsburg, VA November 12, 2004 -- Many people who are creative were touched by someone special sometime in their lives, said Bill Moyers, internationally-known journalist and host of Bill Moyers Now on TV. It might have been a grandmother, a parent, a friend, more often than not it was a teacher someone who said, You matter, and made that person aware of his or her own intrinsic worth as a human being. Moyers was talking with writer Hal Gieseking in a private interview, one of a number Gieseking has conducted with forty American overachievers. He features their advice about how to live a more fulfilling life in his new book, Re-invent yourself.
Walter Cronkite confessed he wished he had studied harder before he covered the space flight to the moon on TV (In school I almost flunked physics). Julia Child talked about how to plan a successful buffet dinner (never force your guests to eat with dinner plates on their laps). Robert Ludlum said he always took dozens of photographs when he traveled, great references when writing about places in his thrillers. Russell Baker discussed when (and when not to) use humor in conversations. Mickey Mantle told about how his lead-mining dad turned him into a switch-hitter and Yankee superstar. Re-invent yourself is designed as a self-help book with suggested re-invent yourself actions at the end of each chapter. The author is the former consumer editor of Travel Holiday magazine and author of fifteen published books.
The book is part of a growing trend in America that stresses moral values as the keystones of character. With each book sold a portion of the sales price is tithed to Wheat Ridge Ministries in Itaska, Illinois, an independent Lutheran non-profit organization that seeds health and hope ministries throughout the world. www.wheatridge.org
